Modernism Wow! Flashing back to the Christopher Kennedy Compound Modernism Week Showhouse

Spring is struggling to make its way to the East Coast as the daffodills try to peek through random snow squalls, so we are flashing back to a Friday back in February when we were in warmer, fashionable climate, setting up for our teen bath at the Christopher Kennedy Modernism Week Showhouse in sunny Palm Springs, CA.   This was the view from our room at the Saguaro Hotel.  sigh.

Well, we just loved our time there and we were SO honored to be a part of it all.  Here is a little virtual tour of the insanely great rooms by all of the fantastic designers that were part of the showhouse.  They all knocked it out of the park with not only great design, but it all seemed to flow together beautifully – probably since we all had modernism as our guiding principle.  The group of designers was not only incredibly talented, but a whole lotta fun, and we have to say, we shared a lot of laughs along with our long hours.

So on with the show!  Drama leads the way!  How about some of the nighttime mood shots that we took the night we all finished our installations.  Michael Berman’s exquisite living room set the stage for the entire house.  Truly awe inspiring.  31 Westgate’s  chic entry foyer greeted one with quiet and cool vibe.  And Martyn Lawrence Bullard’s uber glam dining room was a showstopper.  The powder room by Michel Boyd was a perfect example of his amazing artistic eye for texture, form and pattern.

But we can’t be moody the whole time – Palm Springs is all about the sunshine!!!  The light and airy spaces of the house provided a fantastic opportunity to create some great design.  Patrick Dragonette from LA just knocked our socks off with his exquisitely curated den.  Every piece was thought through and more covetable than the next.  We were so taken with the multi-level brass coffee table – it is SO amazing, the photos don’t do it justice!  Keith Fornter (our favorite handle of the @decorhater), created a super chic bathroom that flowed beautifully from the Dragonette space – loved his custom designed fretwork screen (peek behind it and there’s a great pic of Steve McQueen in the almost altogether).  Our fearless leader, Christopher Kennedy created the MOST divine kitchen space.  It was the perfect blend of form and function – bravo, Christopher!  And Denise McGaha, our favorite Texan, created truly the chicest laundry room ever.  The teal lacquered cabinets!  The crystal pulls!  divine.

Well, you have to sleep somewhere, right?  And the bedrooms and baths of this showhouse would make anyone want to move right in.   Julia Buckingham created an eclectic and fun master bedroom with just the most killer view ever.  Kelly Golightly made us insanely jealous with the dressing room to end all dressing rooms – equipped with its own pool boy call button! Flowing from there into Kelli Ellis’ clean, cool, and amazing master bath, bravo to all of the ladies who created the master suite! Not to be outdone, Justin Shaulis wowed us all with his sophisticated guest room and bath, filled with his custom made pieces that made us swoon.  The bed and corresponding brass nightstands were marvels of design, Justin is truly a shining example of intelligence in decor.

Now from cool and chic to colorful and a little crazy!  We were so lucky to share a space with the incomparable Carson Kressley.  He said he designed his Teen Bedroom for a girl who loves fashion and horses, so in other words, just like Carson!  His bright palette of orange, fuchsia and acqua flowed beautifully into our colorful Teen Bath – such fun all the way around!!!  We designed our bath with a chic teen in mind as well – and we could not have done it without our amazing style partners!  Arizona Tile for floors, shower tile (how about that blue penny) and lime green (!!) countertop.  Coleen + Co for color matching their fabulous tassel sconces to our crazy countertop.  The Guildery for producing our custom designed wallpaper.  Wendy Concannon and her amazing custom colored photographs that absolutely blew us away.  Waylande Gregory for the chicest garden stool and accessories around.  Addison Weeks for the brass touches that truly made the counter space.  Promise Organic for our fantastic (and color coordinated) shower goodies.  Emily McCarthy for their classic yet modern monogrammed linens.  And Ferguson for all of the gorgeous Dornbracht hardware.  We were so proud of it all!

Well, the showhouse was a fantastic success….so onto the outside for a little R+R and a great toast goodbye to all.  The outdoor landscaping and pool terrace was designed by the Australian superstar, Jamie Durie.  The chaises from his own outdoor line are just the ultimate in outdoor cool.  And the teahouse folly designed by Christopher Kennedy himself was the icing on the cake.  Loved it all.  Cheers to warm weather, great design and fun times to all of the designers of this year’s showhouse!
